A Sudoku app with no ads, for everyone

Sudoku - No Ads & Offline has no advertising at all: no banner under the board, no video between games and no "watch an ad" for a hint. There is no advertising SDK in the app, so there is nothing to switch off and nothing to pay to remove. It is free to download, every mode works offline, and the hints explain the technique instead of just filling in a number.

Nine of the top ten Sudoku apps show ads

We looked at the ten classic Sudoku apps that come first in Apple's US search results for "sudoku", and at what their own store pages say. Nine show ads: eight are labelled on the App Store and one on Google Play. These are the nine. Most sell you a way to make the ads stop, and three list no purchases at all.

Checked on 3 November 2026, in Apple's public US search results for "sudoku" and on each app's own store page. "Shows ads" is the "Contains Advertising" label on the app's US App Store page; nerByte's app has no such label there, so the "Contains ads" label on its Google Play page is used. Prices are the in-app purchases those pages list, in US dollars, and can change. Left out: Killer Sudoku by Sudoku.com, a variant (it also shows ads and sells "Killer Sudoku No Ads" for $14.99), and the one classic Sudoku app in the ten, with 12 ratings, that lists no ads.

What ads do to a puzzle game

Sudoku is a chain of reasoning you hold in your head: this cell can only be a 4 because that box already has one. A video between games, or a banner moving under the board, breaks exactly that chain.

Ads also cost you things that are not money. Video ads use mobile data and battery, and some free puzzle apps play one after every game or offer one in exchange for a hint. When the hint you need is behind an ad, the game is no longer teaching you; it is selling your attention.

And the way out usually costs money. In the table above, a one-time purchase to remove the ads costs up to $14.99, and three apps list no purchase at all, so there is no listed way out.

So how is it free?

Downloading and playing are free, including all six difficulty levels with unlimited puzzles, the Daily Challenge, the interactive tutorial, every technique lesson, Corner + Center notes and Color Marks.

Pro is optional. It raises the hints per game, lets you play standard games with no mistake limit, opens the whole Daily Challenge archive and unlocks the premium themes. Removing ads is not one of the things it sells you, because there are none to remove.

Questions about Sudoku without ads

Is there a Sudoku app with no ads?

Yes. Sudoku - No Ads & Offline, for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android, shows no ads to anyone, whether they pay or not. There is no advertising SDK in the app at all.

Do I have to pay to remove the ads?

No. There are no ads to remove. Pro, an optional subscription or one-time purchase, adds extras such as more hints per game and premium themes; it is not an ad-removal purchase.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Every mode works with the network switched off, so you can play on a plane, in the subway or anywhere without a signal, and no video ever waits for a connection.

Why do most Sudoku apps show ads?

Ads pay for most free games. Nine of the ten top Sudoku apps on the US App Store show them, and most then sell a way out, from a $2.99 subscription to a $14.99 purchase. We chose a free game with no ads at all and an optional Pro for extras.

Is it really free?

Yes. All six levels with unlimited puzzles, the Daily Challenge, the tutorial and every technique lesson are free, with no ads.
